Best value for the money! I use it with all my students at this level. I wouldn't use it from a zero level, (I teach native Spanish speakers, so I use Ingles para todos for them to begin from zero) but this is an excellent book for those who know a little bit of English already. This is a "one-level" resource. I highly recommend.
I did a lot of research on beginning ESL books, and this one is by far the best. The learning is incremental. Not too fast, and not too slow. It's challenging enough for good students, but has built in elements to help those who struggle. The app is priceless. I love the way it has the student look up all vocabulary in a given lesson FIRST, then they have it as a reference as they work through the lesson. This allows them to build their own working bilingual dictionary.
We love the book but we only received the book in this purchase. There were no flashcards, audio recordings, etc. that came with the purchaseSets of flashcards for all the vocabulary lists with progress trackingAn answer key for all exercises in the book with progress trackingAudio recordings for all exercise answers in English and reading passagesRecord and replay function to compare your pronunciations to those of native speakers
My husband is learning English and I got this as a way to boost his knowledge (he's learned through various online programs and apps, but no formal classes). It's been great! He's skilled enough to understand the directions, so I'm not sure how easy it would be for someone with no knowledge of the language. I've been using the French Practice Makes Perfect books and have made great progress with those.
The book is great however the flashcard app and the 90 minute audio was not included with the book, still waiting on Mcgraw Hill to talk to the editor about this two missing items since Amazon does not have them.
I think that this is an excellent book, but not for people who don't understand one word in English, unless you have a bilingual .teacher who can explain you the exercises, because the instructions are in English. An excellent book for advanced students who want to review their English. The instructions before the exercises, say: "Use your dictionary to find the meaning of the following verbs and vocabulary words needed for this exercise before you begin. Write the words in your language in the space provided". The problem is that each word has a lot of meanings and, if you don't understand the rest of the sentence, you won't know what is the correct meaning.
The book is nice but you should either adjust the description of the book or send us the "+ Flashcard App + 90-minute Audio " since it is not available we will be glad to downloaded online if it is available somewhere or if you can send us the linkI did not see any response on the other comments hope i get oneRegards
Got as a companion to the "Advanced" volume. I just wanted lots of examples. I read and write at a very high level but didn't know the rules. I enjoy learning the nuts and bolts. This would be great for anyone that either never learned the rules, speaks/writes at a basic level and wants to improve or is ESL.
